1949 is regarded as one of Gibson’s best post-war years. The Kalamazoo factory was fully restored after the war years, yet pre-war techniques were still employed (such as scalloped bracing).
This guitar is still in beautiful condition after 76 years. It has never had a neck reset and doesn’t require one. It is also completely free of cracks.
This LG-2 sounds truly stunning: very dry and warm, with more bass and volume than you would expect from such a relatively small body. In my opinion, it is the most versatile flattop Gibson ever made. A perfect model for both fingerpicking and flatpicking.
The guitar features a Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the desired scalloped bracing, and a tapered headstock.
It has a medium to full C-shaped neck profile but is certainly not as thick as some of the necks from the 1940s. I would compare it to an average mid-’50s Gibson neck.
The guitar still has its original tuners, although a few tuner tips have been replaced. Additionally, it is missing the strap pin, and a small piece of the backstrip has come loose and is gone.
The guitar comes with its original case (in poor condition) as well as a sturdy new Gibson case for better protection.
Feel free to come and try it out thoroughly. It can also be shipped. If you have any questions or would like to see more photos of the guitar, please get in touch.
