Every now and then you come across a guitar that immediately feels special from the very first chord. This early 1958 Duo-Sonic is one of those guitars.
This guitar sounds absolutely fantastic. To my ears, the Duo-Sonic is the perfect cross between a Telecaster and a Stratocaster: it has a touch of Telecaster twang, but with a rounder, warmer character. In the middle position, both pickups are wired in series, resulting in a more powerful, fuller tone with significantly reduced hum, comparable to a humbucker-like sound.
The Fender Duo-Sonic is a short-scale guitar with a 22.5” scale length. Typically, these short-scale models feature a slimmer neck and a narrow nut, which can make them feel somewhat small. What sets this Duo-Sonic apart is its wide nut, measuring nearly 42 mm, and its substantial neck with a V profile. As a result, it truly feels like a full-size Fender neck.
Over the past 67 years the guitar has clearly been well played, but fortunately it has remained completely original. Only the frets have been replaced (the original frets are still included). The original case is also present.
The combination of the slightly shorter yet substantial neck, the full tone and the excellent playability makes this guitar a truly unique instrument. You are very welcome to come and see it and try it out yourself!
