Ever wondered what it would be like to buy a brand-new Fender in the early 1960s? This 1962 Fender Jazzmaster offers perhaps the closest experience you’ll find today.
This slab-board Fender Jazzmaster from 1962 is completely original, accompanied by all its accessories and fully documented provenance.
The original sales receipt is included, showing that Roy Welsh purchased this Jazzmaster on 28 June 1962 from Vic’s TV & Radio Ltd. in Powell River, Canada. The guitar was also once part of the collection of Terry Foster: noted Fender expert, collector and author (including Fender: The Golden Age 1946–1970).
Most guitars from this period now look well-worn, which can be beautiful in its own right and tells the story of an instrument’s life, but finding a Jazzmaster in this kind of ‘museum grade’ is exceptionally rare.
Over the years I’ve owned several (pre-CBS) Jazzmasters and played many more. I’m rarely disappointed by a Jazzmaster, but this one truly plays and sounds extraordinary.
It delivers notable sustain, with the bridge pickup offering almost the ‘twang’ of a Telecaster but with a fuller, warmer tone. The neck pickup sounds beautifully open and warm.
And to top it off, at the Vintage Guitar Show Veenendaal on 20 September 2025, this guitar won the award for ‘Best Guitar of the Show’!
The Jazzmaster comes with the following original accessories:
