The Fender Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic were introduced as student model guitars back in the 1950s – affordable entry-level instruments. However, no compromises were made in terms of build quality, which matches that of the higher-end Fender models from the same era.

You notice it straight away when you pick up this 1966 Musicmaster II. The guitar feels lively, acoustically resonant, and surprisingly loud even when unplugged.

This particular example, finished in Dakota Red, left the Fender factory in Fullerton in the spring of 1966 and remains largely original. The pickup, pots, pickguard, finish, and bridge are all as they left the factory. Only one tuner has been replaced, and the original Fender logo on the headstock has worn away over time.

The guitar is in lovely condition overall. The lacquer is completely original, with a beautiful, natural checking and no overspray. There’s a light grey mark on the back of the headstock, likely an old burn mark.

Under the serial number on the neck plate, there’s an engraved American Social Security Number. I’ve seen this before on vintage instruments from this era. A small personal touch added by a previous owner. It’s a subtle but charming detail that gives the guitar a tangible connection to its past.

This Musicmaster features the 24" scale length (as opposed to the shorter 22.75" version), making it more comparable to a Fender Jaguar or Mustang. It’s set up with a low, comfortable action and plays very well. The original frets show some wear but still have plenty of life left.

The guitar comes with a vintage Fender case from a slightly later period (late 1960s to early 1970s). A great opportunity to get your hands on a mid-’60s vintage Fender!

You're very welcome to come and try it out extensively. Shipping is also available.
