Beautiful lightweight Fender Esquire from the Custom Shop.
Since the 1950s, the Esquire has been built using a Telecaster body. This leaves space under the pickguard for a neck pickup.
With this Esquire, Fender included everything needed to convert it into a Telecaster: a neck pickup, pickguard and control plate. We have converted this Esquire to a Telecaster using these original parts. If you prefer it as an Esquire, it can easily be converted back, and we would be happy to help with this.
This is a top-loader, meaning the strings do not run through the body but are loaded through the back of the bridge. You can also find this setup on many Telecasters and Esquires from 1958 and 1959. It results in slightly lower string tension and a lighter playing feel. It also means there are no string-through holes on the back of the body, which I personally think looks particularly clean.
According to Fender, the neck has a ’59 D profile. It is somewhat slimmer around the first few frets, but becomes fairly substantial as you move higher up the neck. At just under 3.2 kg (7 lbs), this is an exceptionally lightweight and wonderfully comfortable guitar.
The guitar is in beautiful condition and virtually indistinguishable from new. It comes with the original case, certificate, Floor Traveler, bridge cover, strap, and everything you need to convert the guitar back to an Esquire.
If you have any questions or would like to see more photos of the guitar, please feel free to get in touch. The guitar can be shipped worldwide, but you are also very welcome to come and see and play it in person in The Hague, Netherlands.
