A beautiful, classic Blackguard from the Fender Custom Shop. This is a reissue of a 1953 Telecaster and, at just 3.1 kg, it’s a true lightweight.
It’s a New Old Stock (NOS) model, though it has been played over the past few years. The thin nitrocellulose finish shows some light, natural checking, and there are a few small dings here and there, but overall the guitar remains in very nice condition.
In the bridge position, the guitar sounds tight and wonderfully twangy. In the neck position, it has a somewhat Stratocaster-like character, partly thanks to the Twisted Tele pickup.
The guitar features a typical Blackguard Telecaster neck: fairly substantial, with a U-shaped profile. It’s set up with a low action and plays extremely well.
Unlike many Custom Shop guitars, this one has predominantly vintage specifications. The main modern feature is the compound radius fingerboard: it starts with a traditional, round 7.25” radius at the lower frets and gradually flattens to 9.5” higher up the neck, making string bending easier in the upper registers. The guitar is completely original and comes with the Custom Shop certificate, Floor Traveler, bridge cover, paperwork, and more.
